Donald R. Walker
Donald R. Walker, 89, died on September 18, 2013 after a brief illness.
Born December 29, 1923 in Fort Pierce, Florida, he was the son of Sarah Beatrice and James Kirby Walker. He was married to Helen Phillips Walker, his beloved wife of 55 years, who died in 2007.
Donald was a graduate of Fort Pierce High School, served as a navigator in the Army Air Corps, and graduated from the University of Florida in 1949, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.He had a long and rewarding career as a sales manager for Packers Supply Co. of Ft. Pierce, from which he retired in 1992. He and Helen then moved to Tallahassee to enjoy time with their children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter Wendy Abberger (Lester) and son Reed Walker (Mandy) of Tallahassee, granddaughters Beth Briley Gylan (Jaime) of Baltimore and Julia Briley of Gainesville, and his great grandson Luke Walker Gylan.
Don was passionate about Florida Gators football, golf, and politics and was a voracious reader. He was known for his keen sense of humor, his culinary repertoire, his amazing command of facts and figures, and his love for and devotion to his family.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 23 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church.
