Elizabeth "Bette" Kathleen Parr Armstrong

Bette Armstrong of Monticello FL passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, after a long, distinguished and fruitful life. She was 85 and a resident of Monticello FL for 51 years. Bette will be laid to rest in a graveside ceremony Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 1: p.m. EST in Roseland Cemetery, East Madison Street, Monticello FL. The family will receive friends at a celebration of life reception at The Mays House, 925 East Washington Street, Monticello FL immediately following the ceremony.
Bette was born August 15, 1928 in Athens, GA. Being a very bright and hard working young lady, she graduated from high school at age 15 and graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's degree in elementary education at age 19. This was the beginning of what she loved to do and resulted in an impressive teaching career (1st grade) that spanned over 30 years (Lake City FL, Tallahassee FL, Monticello FL). Bette suffered the unexpected death of her beloved husband Bill in 1967, but carried on with strength and grace.
Her career included receiving the Teacher of the Year Award and completing her Master's degree in elementary education, but most important to her, significantly impacting the lives of generations of children. In addition to teaching, Bette found time toraise five children, manage a cattle farm, teach Sunday school and take in every stray animal she ever came across.
She was a very special and precious Lady.
She was preceded in death by her mother Kathleen Mavourneen Peeler Parr, her father Hugh Grady Parr, her sister Carolyn Virginia Parr Luffburrow and her husband William "Bill" Francis Armstrong.

Bette is survived by her five children and sixteen grandchildren (three sets of twins) and four great-grandchildren: son Blair Armstrong and wife Joyce of Jasper, FL and their children: Troy and wife Kathy (two children Sierra and Naomi), Jocelyn and husband Tom, Tyson, and Jason; daughter Kathleen Armstrong Moore and husband Ed of Tallahassee FL and their children: Cason and wife Meghan, Ashley (two children Arlington and Hunter), Allison and Brady; son Chris Armstrong and wife Carla of Randolph NJ and their children: Carl, David and Jon; son Clay Armstrong and wife Sue of Marianna FL and their children: Stuart, Sean and wife Alicia, Tyler and Katelyn; son Cordy Armstrong of Monticello FL and his children; Courtney, Nick and Ariel, and numerous relatives and friends.
