E.W. "Larry" Lawrence

E.W. "Larry" Lawrence, 80, of DeLand, passed away at his home on July 1, 2014. A native of Stuyvesant Township, NY, Larry has been a resident of Florida for many years. He retired as a Lieutenant with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission after 44 years of service throughout Florida and the Florida Keys, where he was given the nickname "The Lone Ranger." Throughout his service with the game commission, Larry was honored with the Officer of the Year award, National Sharp Shooter Award, The Governor's Award, Special Conservation Award for outstanding contributions to the use and management of the nation's natural resources, and numerous other awards and citations. He helped train the Puerto Rican Ranger Corps officers and in 1964-1965, he ran the Florida Pavilion for the World's Fair. He and Mary Beth spent time helping feed the homeless of the DeLand community. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, DeLand and an Eagle Scout. Larry was very active in Masonry holding memberships in the Bahia Shrine Temple in Orlando, the St. John's Masonic Lodge, The York Rite, The Scottish Rite, The Royal Order of Jesters Court 166.He was also involved in the Elks Lodge in the Florida Keys as well as in DeLand. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Mary Beth Lawrence, beloved sons, Steven & Jan Lawrence of Punta Gorda, FL and Scott & Sandy Lawrence of DeLand, four beloved grandchildren, Heather Lawrence, Mary Frances Lawrence, William Lawrence and Sean Lawrence and 2 great grandchildren, Nathan Lawrence and Natalie Lawrence.

Larry's family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a Masonic service and a scripture service starting at 6:00 pm. They will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, July 8, at 10:00 am at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Deland. In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate gifts in his name to the Shriners Children's Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
