Patricia RuthTobias Xanders

Patricia RuthTobias Xanders, 84, died peacefully in her home August 2, 2013, after an arduous year-long battle with health issues. Patricia was surrounded by her loving family and many friends during her passing, just as she had been in life.

Patricia was born on March 14, 1929, in Paris, Illinois, the youngest of five children. She attended and graduated from Illinois State University in Bloomington, Illinois, where she met and married Lex Evans Xanders. The couple was married 42 years and had six children. They resided in Illinois for most of their lives.
During those years, Pat taught all levels of both grade school and high school. He preceded her in death by 19 years.
In May 2007, Patricia relocated to Tallahassee, where four of her six children currently reside. Her family was her pride and joy, second only to her love for God. Pat and Lex raised their children in the Methodist Church, where their family took up an entire pew! Pat was always active in the Church, whether it be cooking for a funeral luncheon, quilting with a group of ladies, folding clothes for Our Father's Storehouse or attending Bible classes.
Her life was an ongoing testimony to loving God and serving others.
Patricia Xanders is survived by her six children: Donna Reynolds; Jeff Xanders; David Xanders; Greg Xanders and wife Beth El; Cathy Heaven and husband Paul; and Doug Xanders and wife Vicki; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Xanders resided in Tallahassee for 6 years, enjoyed many friendships, was very active in her church, Wildwood Presbyterian, and was always ready for adventure. She loved to sing, play the piano, dance (it's been said she taught the grandkids how to jitterbug), sew, swim, bake, travel, and cheer for the University of Illinois basketball team!
Many thanks go out to those who made her last weeks extra special with prayers, visits, cards, flowers and loving care.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013, 11:00 a.m., at Wildwood Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wildwood Church in the memory of our mom. The address is 100 Ox Bottom Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32312.
