Robert Murrell "Bobby" Jernigan
Robert Murrell Jernigan, age 82, died peacefully at home on June 6, 2014, with his family at his bedside. He was born on July 11, 1931, in Live Oak, Florida to his parents W.M. Jernigan and Rubye Hunt Jernigan.

Robert graduated from Suwannee High School in 1949 where he was quarterback for the Bulldogs football team, as well as playing shortstop on the baseball team.
He served in the United States Navy (1951-1955) during the Korean War.
Returning to attend school, Robert graduated from Florida State University in 1958. He was loyal life-long member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. After 37 years, he retired from Vocational Rehabilitation with the State of Florida and always had a special interest in helping with the Special Olympics program.
Robert was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Having lived in Tallahassee for over 50 years, Robert was an excellent and avid golfer, and a long-time member of Capital City Country Club. He enjoyed playing several times a week with all of his golfing buddies. He loved to dance, listened to jazz and enjoyed hearing Frank Sinatra sing.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his family. Robert was known as a man of honesty and integrity. His word was his bond.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, W.W. "Billy" Jernigan. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Emma (Dexter) Jernigan, an amazing son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Sandra (Munoz) Jernigan, a wonderful daughter, Julie Jernigan, his two fine grandsons of whom he was proud, Parker Jernigan and Hayden Jernigan, his stepmother, Florrie Jernigan of Live Oak, Florida, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Martha (Dexter) and Gary Medley, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and family at a visitation to be held at Beggs Funeral Homes, 3322 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, FL 32311, (850)942-2929, from 5:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 10, 2014. Graveside services and interment will be held at the Live Oak City Cemetery in Live Oak, Florida on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 11:00 am.
Officiating will be Robert's nephew, Rev. Glenn Jernigan.

The family would like to thank the doctors and caregivers, especially Big Bend Hospice, Jonathan Woods, and Skekia Jones for their kind services and gracious attention to Robert.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Special Olympics of Florida/Leon County.
