Samuel George Daws, Jr.

Samuel George Daws, Jr., loving husband, father, and friend, age 82, of Ochlockonee Bay, FL, left his earthly home to join family and friends in his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 5th, 2013 in Tallahassee, FL. He was born on August 31, 1930 in Buckhead, GA and moved to Tallahassee in 1947 where he began his career with the City of Tallahassee Parks Dept.
as a tree trimmer. He later became a fireman, and then joined the Tallahassee Police Dept.
He worked his way up through the ranks to become captain and later the Director of Financial Regulations. He started his own business as a tree trimmer and also built the Lazy J Mobile Home Park, which he maintained until 1997. In 1987, he started D & B Maintenance & Repairs, maintaining this business until selling the mobile home park and moving to his home in Ochlockonee Bay. He later founded George Daws Maintenance & Repairs; he loved helping people with their repair needs until his recent illness.

George was a past president of the Tallahassee Lions Club which he joined in 1966, a past commander of the Tallahassee Power Squadron, the founder of the Tallahassee Police Dept. Reserve Unit, a member of the Big Bend Winnie-Tascas Camping Club, and the Ochlockonee Bay United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Henry and Sammie Pauline Daws, a brother, Arlyce Daws, sisters, Elna Bennett, Cecil Watkins, and Urania Clair Fowler, and a son, James Michael Daws.

He is survived by his wife, Sue King Daws, sisters, Betty Collier and Margaret Daws, sons, Keith Daws, Steve Daws, and George (Ivia) Daws II, daughter, Becky (Chris) Cook, stepson, Rodger Lowery, stepdaughter, Pam Motley, sister-in-law, Martha (John) Graham, brother-in-law, Martin (Dianne) King, 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, March 10that the Ochlockonee Bay United Methodist Church in Ochlockonee Bay. A time for visiting with the family will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ochlockonee Bay United Methodist Church, 2780 Surf Rd, Ochlockonee Bay, FL 32346.
