Arthur Eugene HAYES Obituary

HAYES, Arthur Eugene "Gene"Age 87, was born November 20, 1925 and passed away peacefully on July 14, 2013 surrounded by family. "Gene" served proudly in the U.S. Army, where he received an honorable discharge in 1946. He went on to work for Vanderbilt Hospital for 30 years, where he retired in 1987. He was known for his kind and generous nature, and was well loved by all that knew and met him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Willie Mae Hayes, as well as six siblings, Elizabeth Hayes, Ophelia Hayes Spencer, Callie Hayes Nolen, Samuel Hayes, Howard Hayes, James Hayes; and a niece, Annie Spencer. He is survived by a very loving and devoted family: nieces, Barbara Hines, Alma Turner, Mary Hunter; great nieces and nephews, Regina (Anthony) Johnson, Brenda (Ernest) McKinney, Tanya (Gary) Dixon, Renee Spencer, Cassandra (Billy) Branch, Tracy (Jerrold) Tatum, Eric Hines, Jeff (Tammy) Turner, Terry (Tameka) Turner; other family, Zhay (Bryan) Shipp, Eren (Demitri) Carter, Andreka Johnson, Raymond McKinney, Eric Harvey, Jasmin and Justin Tatum, Zhordan and Zyion Shannon, Bryce Shipp, Brooklyn Carter, Terrell, Travis, Jaya, Jamya, April, Terri-Lynn, T.J., Jaylan and Zyan Turner; devoted friend, Annie Bell Bass and family; and friends and neighbors at the Green Hills Retired Teachers' Apartments. The family wishes to express thanks to the Emergency and ICU staff at Vanderbilt Hospital. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in Gene's name to the David Jones, Jr. Assisted Living Center, 1204 Schrader Acres Drive, Nashville, TN 37208. Visitation today, Wednesday, July 17, 2013 from 12 Noon to 7 p.m., with family present from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at J. W. Adkins Funeral Home, 2510 12th Ave. S., Nashville, TN 37204.
