Dickson, TN

Age 92, former President and Chairman of the Board of First Federal Bank, died June 13, 2014 at Horizon Medical Center.

Born in Dickson County, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Ethel Baker Fuqua. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kirkland Fuqua and Mitchell Fuqua.

Educated in Dickson County schools and was a member of the Dickson High School Class of 1942.

He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army, 91st Infrantry Division during WWII and received the Bronze Star.

He began his banking career in 1955 with First Federal and retired with 37 years of service, serving in all capacities of the bank.

He had a love for scouting and compassionately served the Boy Scouts of America as volunteering and raising money for the organization. He faithfully supported them for some 59 years.

Longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Pioneer Bible Class.

He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club.

Survivors include his nephew, Gene (Becky) Fuqua; his niece, Linda (Cliff) Dunne; his great-nieces and nephews, Sarah (Robbie) Wilson, Nathan (Tiffany) Fuqua, Margaret (Russ) Romine, Ben Fuqua and Christian Gateskill-Fuqua; four great-great nieces and nephews and his longtime caregiver, Carolyn Jones.

His remains are in the care of the Taylor Funeral Home, Dickson, TN, where visitation will be Monday, June 16, 2014 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A service of remembrance will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, June 17 at 2 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steven Lee and Dr. Ed Blackburn officiating. His remains will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until time of service on Tuesday. Place of rest will be in the Fuqua Family Cemetery. Those desiring memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Boy Scouts of America.
