Beverly P. Dillon, age 84 of Dundee, IL, died peacefully Januay 30, 2014 of natural causes. Her son, John Wesley Dillon, was at her side.
Born August 28, 1929 in Chattanooga TN, she was the youngest of four daughters of John Roy and Inez (nee McNeal) Patton. She attended Vanderbilt University where she received degrees in Math and Psychology. On September 2, 1952 she married her college sweetheart "Teddy Dillon" who would take them to Winnipeg, Canada where he was the first Manitoba Provincial Wildlife Biologist for Ducks Unlimited. They moved to Dundee, IL in 1966, both employed by the Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation, enjoying long rewarding careers.
A long time resident of Dundee, IL, Bev was very active in the community. A faithful member of the First Congregational Church of Dundee, UCC, she served as a Deaconess, in Women's Fellowship, was a founding member of the "Bells of Dundee" hand bell choir and Home & Hospital Visitation Ministry where she remained active until death. A member of the Dundee Women's Club, member and the J.G. Chapter of the P.E.O Sisterhood, recently earning her 50 year pin. Bev was active in the Every Wednesday Literary Club and Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. One remembers Beverly as a dedicated wife, mother, and friend, who gave her time and energy willingly, always rising to the occasion.
She is survived by son, John Wesley (Trisha) and granddaughter, Kelsey Ann of Oakland, ME. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Smith Tenison "Ted" Dillon; sisters, Dorothy Brammer, Inez Austin, Ruth Patton; nephew, David Brammer and her parents. Relatives include sister-in-law, Ellen W. Dillon (William W. Dillon III); niece, "Emmie" Dillon (James) Thomas; nephews, William W. Dillon, Jr. of Nashville, TN, Shelby (Toni) Brammer, Seattle, WA, John (Becky) Brammer, Chattanooga, TN, Hilton (Patti) Austin, Jr., Decatur, GA.
A Gathering of Friends to remember Beverly will be held on Thursday, June 5th from 3-5 p.m., in the Gathering Space at Woodmont Christian Church, 3601 Hillsboro Road, Nashville, TN 37215.
