BRILEY, Clifton Beverly Age 73 of Holland Point, MD, passed away on November 4, 2012, surrounded by his family at the Mandrin Center, Hospice of the Chesapeake. Cliff was born May 9, 1939 in Nashville, TN to Dorothy and Clifton Beverly Briley, Sr. He graduated from Litton High School in 1957 and received his BA in Physics from Vanderbilt University in 1962. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Cliff specialized in transformer design, power supply design and system power management. The first part of his career was spent at Aladdin Electronics, Inc in Nashville where he worked his way from laboratory technician to eventual Vice President of Operations. In Houston, TX, he was a Plant Manager for Sigma Electronics and also retrofitted computer controls to metal working machinery. For the last twenty-five years of his career based out of Holland Point, MD, Cliff performed contract design engineering for aerospace, military and consumer product industries throughout the mid-Atlantic. The Boy Scouts were important to Cliff; he was an Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow member and was given the Long Rifle Award. He was a Summer Camp counselor for numerous years and a Troup Leader for over 20 years in both Nashville and Houston. Through out his life, sailing was an avid interest of Cliff. He sailed on Old Hickory Lake outside of Nashville, Galveston Bay outside of Houston, and the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. For seven years he and his wife lived aboard his sailboat, Paralian, before purchasing a beach cottage on Holland Point in 1994. Cliff's hobbies also included learning from the internet, communicating via email with his friends and family, working crossword puzzles and watching educational TV. After retiring, he traveled with his wife on her various sales trips. Cliff is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Marilyn Briley; and his two sons, David (Jodie) Briley and Rob Briley in Nashville, TN. Also surviving are his sister, Diane Easterling and her three girls, Beverly (David) Caldwell, Beth (John) Marshall, and Emily Mayo in Dickson, TN; and cousin and best friend, Ken Briley of Alexandria, VA. Cliff had three grandchildren, Sam Briley in Nashville and Beverly and Aidan Briley in Essex, VT; and a grandniece, Leno Mayo, in Dickson, TN. Numerous cousins reside in middle TN. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., December 2 in Nashville, TN at the Litton High School Gymnasium.
