Ernest EWERS Obituary


EWERS, Ernest William Age 88 of Nashville, TN, passed away on the 10th of June 2013. He was born in China on the 19th of June 1924. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Ernest Morrison Ewers, and his beloved daughter, Deborah Celeste Ewers. Survived by his wife of 66 years, Marge, son William Morrison Ewers (Biff), and grandsons Jeffrey Morrison Ewers and Matthew William Ewers. Dr. Ewers, the son of medical missionaries, was born in China, finished high school in Somerset, Kentucky, and attended Emory University and Vanderbilt University. While at Vanderbilt, his fellow students elected him Bachelor of Ugliness. He graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School in 1948, did his residency there and at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.He served in the Navy and Marine Corps during WWII and the Korean War. Dr. Ewers was a Professor Emeritus of Clinical Medicine at Vanderbilt Medical School, and served on the Medical School Board of Trustees for over thirty years. One of the founders of the Canby Robinson Society, he served as its president from 1981-1983. He practiced internal medicine and cardiology for over sixty years in Nashville. For those many years he was a very dedicated doctor who cared deeply for his patients. A memorial service will be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 12th of June at Westminster Presbyterian Church. A private burial service will be held at a later time.
