Dr. Friedrich G. Schuening

Dr. Friedrich G. Schuening, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2014, age 71, after losing a stoic battle with leukemia. Born in Trier, Germany.
He is survived by his devoted, loving wife, Angelene; daughter Anja of Germany; son, Tim of Germany; sister, Christine of Australia; brother, Gerd of Germany.
He is predeceased by his father, Friedrich Karl Johannes Schuening (1991) and mother, Christine Katharina Schuening (1991).
His education included a M.S., Theology, University of Mainz, Germany and M.D., Medicine University of Hamburg, Germany. He first worked at the West German Cancer Center in Essen and then emigrated to Seattle, WA in 1985 where he began a distinguished career in Bone Marrow Transplantation and Gene Therapy at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center as Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Washington. In 1995, he departed Seattle and established an outpatient BMT program as Professor of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. 1999 - He established another successful outpatient BMT program at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN as Professor of Medicine. 2011 - As Professor of Internal Medicine, Division Director of Hematology and Oncology, St. Louis University he opened a third outpatient program, of which there are only a handful in the U.S.
Friedrich lectured internationally on stem cell transplantation and gene therapy, reviewed manuscripts for high profile hematology journals and participated in 120+ peer reviewed publications.
His passion for practicing medicine was fierce and inspiring, leaving in his wake many that he mentored. "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord" Matthew 25:21 NKJV.
