Smyrna, TN

Gladys Elizabeth Gooch, age 85 of Smyrna, passed away on February 20, 2014.

She was born in Smyrna on April 30, 1928 to Allen Weakley Gooch and Gladys Morton Gooch, who preceded her in death, as did her brother, Robert M. Gooch.

She is survived by her sister, Nancy L. Stewart of Nashville; 4 nephews, 4 great nephews and 2 great nieces.

Gladys taught Spanish at David Lipscomb College from 1950 to 1993. After obtaining her Masters Degree from Vanderbilt University in 1950, she also studied at the University of Mexico, Columbia University and the University of Colorado. She was a charter member of Highland Heights church of Christ. She loved her family, Vanderbilt basketball and everyone of her former students at David Lipscomb.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 22nd at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna, and graveside services will be conducted at Mapleview Cemetery in Smyrna at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 23rd.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lawrence Gardner Fund, in care of Highland Heights church of Christ, or to churches of Christ Disaster Relief Fund.
