Glenn Holland Delzell, age 87, died at home Monday March 17, 2014 in Charlotte, NC.
Preceded in death by parents, John Roy and Jewell Holland Delzell; sister, Cecil Helen; and brother, James Milton Delzell.
Survived by adored wife of 60 years, Jean Roark Delzell; children, Brian, Barry (Betsy) and Jennifer (Henry); grandchildren, Zachary Holland and Megan Alanna Delzell; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Delzell graduated high school early in order to serve in the U.S. Navy as a SeaBee in the South Pacific. After the war, he received his bachelor's degree from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute in business administration. Mr. Delzell's working career was varied including positions as a banker in Decherd, TN, an accountant with Container Corporation of America, Rental Director at a Joel Riggs Realtors in Nashville, TN and eventually retiring as a very successful city manager of Berry Hill, TN. In retirement he enjoyed his family and travelling. Mr. Delzell was a rare man of integrity, honesty, and quiet generosity. He believed in doing the right thing even when it was not the easy thing. He steadfastly endured multiple medical illnesses, never complaining yet never giving up, a fighter to the end.
