Harold Robert "Rob" Barber, Jr.

Nashville, TN

Rob Barber, Jr., age 84, passed away suddenly October 19, 2013 at home.

A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 24th, 5 p.m., at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 33 Burton Hills Blvd., with visitation preceding at 4 p.m.

Born in Gulfport, MS to Harold & Annie Ford Barber. Graduated from Gulfport High School, Duke University & University of Mississippi School of Law. Served in the Army Judge Advocate General Corps during the Korean Conflict. Joined the family business at the MS Abstract Title & Guaranty Co. Was the CEO of Coast Federal Savings & Loan Assn., & the Executive Vice President & Board Vice Chairman of Magnolia Federal Bank. Served as Director & President of MS Savings & Loan League, Director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Little Rock, & member of first Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. Was Gulfport Jr. Chamber of Commerce President, Harrison County Advertising Commission Chairman, Gulfport State Port Authority Secretary, Belhaven College Trustee & an active Rotarian.

Lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport, served as Sunday School teacher, Deacon & Elder. Long time supporter of the formation of new Presbyterian congregations in the western US. Currently active in Covenant Presbyterian Church in Nashville.

Survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Donna Miesse Barber; children, Julie Barber Weaver (Bob), David Barber & Susan Barber; grandchildren, Dylan & Lucas Barber, Annie & Helen Weaver; siblings, Edwin Barber (Virginia), Charlottesville, VA and Helen Barber Boone (Walter), Jackson, MS; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Rob requested contributions to French Camp Academy, One Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39745 (cofounded by his great-grandfather) or the Harold & Annie Barber Scholarship Fund at Belhaven College, 1500 Peachtree St., Jackson, MS 39202.
