HODGE, JR., James Lee Lived joyfully, impassioned by his love of learning, his deep connection with nature, and his devotion to friends, family and church. He passed away on August 17, 2013 after a long life and a brief illness. Born in Canton, MS on October 24, 1927, Jim attended Jackson Central High School. He was active in the Boy Scouts, achieved the rank of Eagle, and was awarded the Order of the Arrow. In 1952, Jim graduated from Vanderbilt University after serving in the US Navy during World War II. At Vanderbilt, he was a loyal member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. After college, Jim married Stella Mae Fleming of Blackshear, GA in 1954. In Nashville, Jim was active in the advertising and real estate business communities, as well as his church, Westminster Presbyterian, where he was an active member since 1956. Jim is survived by his wife, Mae Fleming Hodge; his three sons, William Fleming Hodge (Lesa) and Hunter McAlpin Hodge of Nashville, TN, and James Winfield Hodge (Beth) of Shelbyville, KY; his sister, Mary Ann Hodge Fisher of Memphis, and his four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Lee Crawford Hodge and his parents, James Lee Hodge, Sr. and Laverne Harris Hodge of Jackson, TN. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 20th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, August 21st from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3900 West End Avenue, Nashville, TN 37205. A Memorial service will immediately follow Wednesday's visitation at 11:30 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Jim's memory to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
