RAINES, Max A resident of Beverly, MA, died Sunday morning, February 17, 2013 at the Ledgewood Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly. Max Raines was born May 29, 1932 in Cullman, AL to Bertha Garrison Raines and William Auzie Raines. The family settled in Nashville, where they owned and operated a small chain of shoe repair enterprises, Raines Shoe Hospitals. Mr. Raines graduated from West End High School in 1950 where he met his future wife, Hattie Wyatt Caraway Griffith. Both attended Vanderbilt University and married in 1951. Max is survived by his sister, Evelyn Clark and family of Brentwood; two sons, Charles Raines, David Raines and spouse; a daughter, Carole Raines Rhea and spouse; and three grandchildren, Jed, Michael-Max and Kyle. His wife, Caraway, died in 2006. Funeral Services will be held at the First Baptist Church, 221 Cabot Street, Beverly, MA on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Max's memory may be sent to The First Baptist Church, 221 Cabot Street, Beverly, MA 01915.
