Sam Chandler NEAL Obituary

NEAL, Sam ChandlerAge 84 of Nashville, TN. Devoted husband, father, and grandfather, departed this life April 16, 2013 after a brief illness. Preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dolores B. Neal. Survived by his son, David (Laurie) Neal; daughters, Tamera Neal and Kristi (David) Jones; grandchildren, Anthony (Lora), Katherine and Hailey Neal, Emmaline and Elliot Jones; and one brother, Ralph Neal (Thadelle). He was a decorated Korean War Veteran (Bronze Star), a deacon at Vultee Church of Christ, and an employee of SunTrust (Third National Bank) for over 40 years. His passions, plain and simple, focused on the outdoors, his family, and his love of music. Whether he was working a garden with his brother, fishing or hunting with his friends, or camping with his daughter and her students, he was truly in his element. A gentle man, he taught his kids steadfastness, humility, work ethic, selflessness, and to love the Lord. He loved his wife faithfully for 56 years, and they celebrated their retirement years together with their precious grandkids. An avid lover of bluegrass, he took every opportunity to participate with either his fiddle or mandolin whenever the opportunity arose. He shall be missed greatly, but Heaven is a little more joyful place to be today. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 19, 2013 at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road, with Dr. Carl McKelvey, officiating. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Special thanks are expressed to his Neurologist, Dr. Michael Kaminski, and to the caregivers at Woodcrest for the wonderful kindness shown during his nearly 2 years in residence. Additional thanks also to Shirley Jones, his caregiver while at home, and Alive Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (www.PDF.org). Visitation will be Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. and Friday 10 - 11 a.m. at WOODBINE FUNERAL HOME, HICKORY CHAPEL Directors 615-331-1952 Still Family Owned
