Suevelyn Wade (Sue) Peters
Suevelyn Wade (Sue) Peters, 91, slipped gently from this world on January 5 at Alive Hospice.
A remarkable church and community leader, she came to Nashville in 1969 to be the executive director for the Cumberland Valley Girl Scout Council - the position from which she retired in 1992 - ending a 41-year career in professional Girl Scouting.
A Texan by birth, Peters was devoted to her family and is survived by one sister, Marilyn Wade Scott (Rufus); daughter, Donna Clark; granddaughters Susan Walker (Martin Stephens) and Sharon Calvert; plus great grandchildren Julia Calvert and Jack Augustine.
Her commitment to the community was reflected in her civic involvement, including membership in the Downtown Rotary Club, Leadership Nashville and Nashville's Agenda. Peters was among the first inductees to the Academy for Women of Achievement.
Peters was an active member of West End United Methodist Church, where she participated in a spectrum of programs including ushering, serving on search committees, the wedding committee, and as chair of the Pastor/Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
Memorial services will be held at West End United Methodist Church, 2200 West End Avenue, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 19. Visitation will precede the service from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Peters requested that donations be made to Bethlehem Centers of Nashville, 1417 Charlotte Ave. (37203) or to the Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee, 4422 Granny White Pike (37204). Guestbook www.crawfordservices.com
