William "Bill" Howard Parrish

Port Saint Lucie, FL

William "Bill" Howard Parrish, age 92, passed into his heavenly home on Saturday, March 8, 2014 in Port Saint Lucie, Florida where he had lived for the last five years.

Mr. Parrish was born in Florence, Alabama where he joined the Navy in 1941 and married his wife, Marie S. Parrish, in 1943 while he was home on leave after the sinking of the USS Atlanta. After leaving the Navy, he lived in Nashville, Tennessee for over 50 years where he retired from the US Post Office and had many good friends with which he hunted and fished.

He was a World War II Veteran having survived the sinking of the USS Atlanta in the Pacific and during the Korean War he served on a Mediterranean Tour.

He belonged to Inglewood Baptist Church in Nashville and joined Midway Road Baptist Church in Fort Pierce when he moved to Port St Lucie. He enjoyed Gospel Music and riding his three wheel bicycle while in Florida.

In addition to his parents, Argie and Alma Parrish, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Brewer; his brother, Jesse Parrish and several nephews.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Marie; and his daughter, Carol (Bennie) Lewis of Port St. Lucie, FL; two granddaughters, Mary Lewis and Kelly (Michael) Cox; nine great-grandchildren, Angela, Donald, Elizabeth, Maverick, Kaitlyn, Madelyn, Gwyneth, Cindy and Aubrey; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Amy Small of Southaven, MS.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., with the service starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Midway Road Baptist Church, located at 1108 Midway Road, Fort Pierce, Florida. The burial will take place on Monday afternoon, March 17, 2014 at 12:45 p.m., at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.
