William Rickman Obituary

RICKMAN, William Samuel, Lt. Col. USAF Ret. Age 86 of Hartsville, TN died May 14, 2009. Preceded in death by wife, Jane Davis Rickman and parents, Lee Wood and Velva Rickman. Survived by daughters, Mrs. Robert (Judy) Thompson, Franklin, TN and Ms. Janet Rickman, Nashville; sons, Mr. William S. Rickman Jr., Hartsville, TN and Mr. Robert Davis (Doris) Rickman, Gallatin, TN; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Formerly of Nashville, Mr. Rickman was a graduate of Duncan Preparatory School, Class of 1941. He served as a B-24 pilot in England during World War II. He then returned to General Motors Tech in Flint, MI where he graduated in 1948. He was recalled to active military duty in 1951 and flew combat missions in Indochina, Korea and Vietnam. His career as a transport pilot for MATS spanned the globe until his retirment in 1968. He was a member of Hartsville United Methodist Church. Special thanks to Dr. John Nadeau as well as Davonda, Kelly, Jimmy Lane, Rosie and all those who lovingly cared for our Dad over the years. Private graveside services will be held at the Willow Grove Cemetery in Hartsville, TN conducted by Rev. Barton Pepper. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
