Wirt McKnight went to be with our Lord on May 24 at the age of 73. He died peacefully at NHC Place having just visited with his family earlier in the afternoon. Wirt grew up in Nashville, and attended MBA and Vanderbilt University. Following 4 years as an officer in the US Navy, he received his law degree from Nashville School of Law.

He joined Third National Bank as a trust officer and became head of the Trust Dept. and Executive Vice President of the bank. He then joined Bank of Nashville heading their trust department.

He was an active member of Brentwood United Methodist Church, taught the Wesley Forum Sunday School class for more than 12 years and served as a Stephen Minister. He was dedicated to the Room at the Inn project, Habitat for Humanity, Wounded Warrior Project, and St. Jude Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; his daughter, Heather Goodman, Clifford Goodman, and grandson, Carl Goodman; his sisters, Elizabeth Illig (Alan), Ann Roede (Art); his brothers, Paul J. McKnight (Evelyn) and Lee A. McKnight (Pamela). Also his step sons, Richard M. Scott Jr. (Dawn) and their two sons, Andy and Max (Jamie) and their son Easton, and Jeff M. Scott (Karyn) and their two children, Will and Lauren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, The Reverend and Mrs. Paul J. McKnight.

Honorary Pallbearers include the volunteers of the Sunny Day Club, a dementia-care program at the church, and the members of the Wesley Forum Sunday School class.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. til 12 noon on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Brentwood United Methodist Church followed by a memorial service in the church sanctuary at noon. Dr. Davis Chappell and Bishop Joe Pennel will officiate. He will be laid to rest in the church columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church Sunny Day Club, or the Wesley Forum Class Fund, C/O Brentwood United Methodist Church, 309 Franklin Rd., Brentwood, TN 37027.
