Bernard F. Bonnecaze, Jr.

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette for Bernard F. Bonnecaze, Jr., age 91, who died at 9:25 AM on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at his residence in Lafayette.

Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Reverend Taj V. Glodd, Associate Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Dawn D. Bonnecaze and Daniel Mower Giftbearers will be Stewart, Sarah and Sydney Bonnecaze. Ron Moreau, soloist, accompanied on the organ by Phyllis Simar, will sing for the services, "Here I Am Lord", "On Eagles' Wings", "Be Not Afraid", "Amazing Grace", and "You'll Never Walk Alone".

Survivors include his wife, Betty Landry Bonnecaze; his sons, Bernard F. Bonnecaze, III and his wife Cheryl, and Dr. Andre' A. Bonnecaze and wife Dawn; his daughters, Dianne M. Bonnecaze and Celeste L. Bonnecaze; and four grandchildren, Dr. Alex K. Bonnecaze, Stewart L. Bonnecaze, Sarah L. Bonnecaze and Sydney L. Bonnecaze.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard F. Bonnecaze and the former Hilda Betzer and his grandparents, including his special grandmother, MaMere.

A native of New Orleans and a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana for over fifty- five years, Mr. Bonnecaze proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. During WWII, he served in the 1st Division during the Pacific Theatre of Operations including at Guadalcanal. He retired from Tenneco Oil after 30 years as a Draftsman and a Manager. Mr. Bonnecaze was an active parishioner at St. Pius X Catholic Church where he was an Usher and a Eucharistic Minister and served Communion to patients at local hospitals. He also served with numerous Civic groups including the Board of Zoning and Adjustments, Concerned Citizens for Good Government and a proud member of the Marine Corps League. He volunteered at various charities. He will be deeply missed.

Pallbearers will be members of the Marine Corps League.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 8:00 AM until time of service.

A Rosary will be prayed by Brady LeBlanc on Wednesday at 6:30 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Bernard F. Bonnecaze Jr.'s name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.

The Bonnecaze Family would like to give a special thank you to Daniel Mower, Tony and Patsy Spedale, Dr. Bradley J. Chastant, his hospice nurses, Judith Crowder and JoAnn Harrington, and all his health care sitters and aides.
