Frances M. Moore

LAFAYETTE - Frances Mattox Moore passed away at her home on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 surrounded by her beloved family. A longtime resident of Lafayette, she was born October 24, 1935, to Beatrice and Eddie Joe Mattox in Jasper, Texas. Funeral Services will be at Episcopal Church of the Ascension on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 2 pm with Entombment to be at Fountain Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

"All the charm of all the muses" is how Frances was fondly remembered from her days at Vidor High School. As a majorette and a twirler, she entertained and inspired her classmates with her joyful and enthusiastic spirit. After high school, Frances attended both Lamar University and Sam Houston State University where she majored in Speech and Drama with leading roles in several productions. Her career choice was elementary education. To Frances, "failure was never an option" and her mission was to instill in each of her students the importance of seizing every opportunity offered, regardless of life's obstacles.

She married her Texas A & M sweetheart, Norman Moore, in 1958 and together they stayed actively involved with Texas A& M University throughout their entire lives. They were also eager participants in LAGCOE and the Mystik Krewe of Louisiana in Washington D.C.

Norman's career in the petroleum industry afforded them opportunities to live in numerous cities throughout the states of Louisiana and Texas creating lifelong friendships extending far and wide. To know Frances was to make a friend for life. She had a wonderful knack for making an ordinary world extraordinary. Consistently engaged with a smile and warm hug, her door was always open for love and laughter. Her phenomenal sense of humor and her good nature were infectious. Aside from her family and friends, her greatest passions were Texas A & M football and travel.

A member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension for many years, Frances was actively involved with the Ascension Altar Guild and Olive Branch, where she surrounded herself with members who also became some of her life-long friends.

She had a special bond forged for over a period of 35 years with three dear friends Emily Leary, Ginger Roy and Anne Daigle, affectionately known as her "YaYa's."

Frances is survived by her daughter Melinda Moore Dupuy of Lafayette; son, Michael Moore and wife, Michelle of Bentonville, Arkansas; and daughter, Marilyn Moore and husband, Collin Blair of Lansing, Michigan.

She is also survived by six grandchildren, Christopher Dupuy of Denham Springs; Morgan, Manning and Marshall Moore of Bentonville, Arkansas; Avery and Sebastian Blair of Lansing, Michigan; and one great-grandchild, Nate Dupuy of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sisters Virginia Mattox Baird and husband Dick of Lafayette and Claire Mattox Billingsley and husband Bruce of Wimberley, Texas.

Frances is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Norman Moore, and her parents, Beatrice "Sista" and Eddie Mattox.
