Fred "Freddie" Romero, Sr.

CARENCRO - Funeral services will be held Friday, April 11, 2014 at a 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette for Fred "Freddie" Romero, Sr., age 73, who passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at his residence in Arnaudville.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette. The Rev. Bill Melancon, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Erath, will officiate at the services. Readers will be Kathy Tate and Lydia Romero.

Musical selections will be provided by Julie Broussard, accompanied by Phyllis Simar on the organ. The songs will be The Old Rugged Cross, Amazing Grace, Ave Maria, Just a Closer Walk With Thee and The Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Mr. Romero was a native of Lafayette and had been a resident of Arnaudville for the past 32 years. He was self-employed as the owner/operator of Bobco Ltd. of Lafayette for 41 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in Unit 421 during the Cuban Crisis.

Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Diane Guidry Romero of Arnaudville; three sons, Chad Romero of Lafayette, Fred J. Romero, Jr. and companion, Sam Simien, of Arnaudville, Elvis Romero and wife, Lydia, of Carencro; two daughters, Michelle Kidder and husband, Randy, of Arnaudville, Maxine Pellerin and husband, Donald, of Lafayette; one stepson, Trent Romero and wife, Kelly, of Lafayette; ten grandchildren, Katie Romero, Chelsea Kidder, Dustin Kidder, Gabriel Pellerin, Isabella Pellerin, Lyndsey Romero, Faith Romero, Halli Romero, Bradley Romero and Madi Defrisco; two sisters, Joanne Schambough and husband, Kirk, of Carencro, and Betty Talbot and husband, Joel, of Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvian Romero and the former Alzie Maturin; and one sister, Joyce Verret.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Friday.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of St. Joseph Hospice for their loving care.

Pallbearers will be Chad Romero, Trent Romero, Dustin Kidder, Elvis Romero, Randy Kidder and Donald Pellerin. Honorary pallbearers will be Kirk Schambough, Joe Talbot and Sidney Benton.
