CARENCRO - Funeral services will be held Friday, March 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for John Melancon, Jr., age 84, who passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 6:34 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Mr. Melancon was a native of Henderson and lived most of his life in Lafayette and Rayne. He was employed with Discount Furniture in Scott for many years. He was also owner/operator of John Melancon Trucking. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of several organizations, including the VFW Post 9822 of Judice, the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. He was a radio control model airplane enthusiast and was a founding member of Acadian RC Club.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Melancon and his wife, Debbie, of Lafayette and Denny Melancon and wife, Jamie, of Salt Lake City, UT; one stepdaughter, Debra Noel; one brother, Addy Melancon and his wife, Ann, of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Leah M. Stewart and husband, Robert, Matthew Melancon and wife, Sarah, Jennifer Melancon, Brian Melancon, Jason Deckard and wife, Amanda, David Noel and Tiffany Domingue; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Melancon, Sr. and the former Agnes Dupuis; four brothers, George Angelle, Antoine Angelle, Bennett Talley and Ladd Melancon; and one stepdaughter, Jacqueline Brown.
A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8:00 a.m. Friday until service time on Friday.
