Dr. John N. Straub

LAFAYETTE - Dr. John Nicholas Straub passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014 at his residence. Born on November 23, 1921 in Beverly Hills, CA, John was the son of the late Bertha Zoch Straub and John Nicholas Straub. He was a graduate of Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA, as well as of Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans, LA. John served in the U.S. Navy prior to and during the time he attended medical school. He married the former Eleanor Francisco in 1952. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Affectionately known as Bud, Doc, Johnny, Uncle Bud and Papa Bud he loved his family and lifelong friends. Family vacations at the beach, where body surfing was the order of the day, were among his most treasured times. Bud loved gardening, white water rafting and projects around the house on Saturday mornings, especially if his children were present to help. According to one of his life-long friends, in their youth Johnny received awards for Best Camper and Best Dancer, the latter coming as a shock to his nine children, in-laws and grandchildren. While Bud had many interest outside of his career, he was blessed to be a part of a profession that he truly enjoyed. Caring for patients and bringing new life into the world was a passion that he loved.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Eleanor Francisco Straub. He also leaves behind his children; Vincent Straub and wife Janice, David Straub and wife Jing, Alicia Kreamer and husband Tommy, Leigh Hull and husband Mike, Jeffrey Straub, Jeanne Vizzi and husband Peter, Karen Conte and husband Kevin, Drue Quire and husband Jeff and Carole Netter and husband Dann.
