Mrs. John, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the daughter of the late Habib Joseph and the former Elizabeth Nicola both of Beirut, Lebanon. She was a member of St. Mary Church. Josephine Joseph John as born in Lockport, Louisiana on October 19, 1921. She graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (S.L.I.) in Lafayette. During her school years she loved playing tennis and basketball. She was a very dedicated elementary school teacher, and taught in numerous schools. She taught in Crowley, Lockport and in Lafayette at S.J. Montgomery for 18 years. She was well loved by the children, faculty and parents.
After teaching for 30 years, she then joined bridge groups, pokeno groups, and loved her bingo games. She also enjoyed her many trips with family and friends. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was so blessed to have had her for all the years that they did. There are so many wonderful memories....her beautiful smile, her dedication to her family, her strong undying faith, and her selfless love always. There needs to be mention of her Lebanese food...kibbie, grape leaves, tabouleh, and hummus just to name a few. I know her family and friends will miss watching LSU and Saints football with her as she was a very serious fan!
She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen J. Jackson and husband, Gerald of Ocean Springs, MS, and Marlene J. Barry and husband, Arthur of Lafayette, LA; one son, Gregory T. John of Lafayette, LA; four grandchildren, Tracy L. Jackson, Trey Barry, Brett Jackson and Angela B. Hutchison, and eight great grandchildren.
