L.J. Trahan

LAFAYETTE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for L.J. Trahan, 79, who died Thursday, July 19, 2012 at his home in Lafayette.

Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.

Rev. Father Richard Kalinowski, SVD will officiate.

L.J. was born Wednesday, January 18, 1933 in Crowley and was a long-time resident of Lafayette. L.J. was a proud veteran and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. A successful building contractor and business owner since 1973, L.J. was a member of the Acadian Home Builders Association locally as well as the National Home Builders Association. He served on the board of directors for both organizations, was awarded the distinguished AHBA Builder of the Year award in 1987 and was appointed Lifetime Director of the NHBA. L.J. was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette.

L.J. enjoyed spending time with his family and was a loving, supportive husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, business associate and friend. He was an avid Saints fan and will be most deeply missed.

L.J. is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Lou Anna Lapearouse Trahan of Lafayette; his three children, daughters Gerrie Martin and Judi Louviere and her husband, Duke and his son Doug Trahan and his wife, Kim, all of Lafayette; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Jamie, Jan, Matt, Kody, Jessica, Tyler, Madeline and Raven; four great-grandchildren, Madyson, Jay, Kate and Leah; one sister, Margie Henry of Lyons Point, La.; and many dear nieces, nephews, friends and associates.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lezime James Trahan, Sr. and the former Ophelia Ancelet; one grandson, Jason Louviere; one sister, Helen Istre and one half-sister, Mary Jane Trahan; and his two half-brothers, Mr. Hillary Prejean and Mr. Camille Prejean.

Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and resumes Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. until time of services.

A rosary will be recited by Deacon Ricky Picard on Friday evening, July 20, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Fountain Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Matt Martin, Ryan Maturin, Tyler Trahan, D.J. Rabalais, Kody Barbier and Jody Viator.

Honorary Bearers are Nolan Landry and Ray LaPointe.
