Phillip Royer

CANKTON - Funeral services will be held Monday, June 9, 2014 at a 3:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Berchmans Catholic Church in Cankton for Phillip Royer, age 69, who passed away Friday, May 6, 2014 at his residence in Cankton.

Interment will be in St. John Berchmans Cemetery in Cankton. The Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, pastor of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.

Mr. Royer was a native and lifelong resident of Cankton. He was the appointed Police Chief in Cankton in 1996 and was also a deputy with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office. Mr. Royer was a parishioner of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church in Cankton, where he volunteered at the annual Spring Fling for fourteen years. He enjoyed being in the company of others. He was a veteran of the military having served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.Survivors include one son, Phillip Royer, Jr. of Cankton; one grandchild, Jennifer Gutierrez; three great grandchildren, Lanie, Robin and Blakely Renee; and two brothers, Dale Royer and his wife, Linda, of Scott and Samuel Royer and his wife, Judith, of Cankton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Florenze Royer and the former Elise Legere; and one brother, Rodney Royer, Sr.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Sunday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Monday.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Royer, Shannon Royer, Ronnie John Royer, Jody Royer, Gavin Royer and Rodney Royer, Jr.
