Rilley Joseph Barron

LAFAYETTE - Funeral Services will be held at a 2:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Sts. Peter & Paul Church for Rilley Joseph Barron, 87, who passed away on January 13, 2013 at 12:35 pm at his residence.

Reverend Tom Voorhies, Pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services.

Burial will take place in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery.

Mr. Barron, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late Henry Barron and the former Cecile Charrier both of Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. He was a Navy Veteran serving in World War II. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a Eucharistic Minister. Rilley was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7568, the American Legion post 69, VFW post 9822, the Holy Name Society and attended Cursillo. He was a retired Engineer for Southern Pacific Railroad after 46 years of service with them. He also drove for Avis Rental for 11 years and volunteered for the DAV, driving disabled veterans. In his spare time he enjoyed making cast nets and shrimp trawls.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Audrey Josephine Matthieu Barron of Lafayette, LA; one daughter, Caroline Ward of Cecilia, LA; five sons, David Henry Barron of Lafayette, LA, Daniel James Barron and wife Mary of Lafayette, LA, Richard Anthony Barron and wife Geri of Lafayette, LA, Andrew Barron and wife Siva of Thibodaux, LA and Donald Jude Barron and wife Angel of Bosco, LA; thirteen grandchildren, Johnny Barron, Melanie Lavergne, Allison Brandon, Christopher Barron, Michael Barron, Jonathan Barron, Elizabeth Barron, Emily Barron, Brittney Poirier, Heather Ward, Hannah Barron, Kaitlyn Barron and Nicholas Barron; three great grandchildren, Nathan Lavergne, Thomas Lavergne and Ava Poirier; and two sisters, Carrie Landrineau and Lillian Rupert.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Techla Barron and Cora Veade; and two brothers, Carwin Barron and Floyd Barron.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Scott on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm and on Thursday from 9:00 am until the time of service. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm.

Pallbearers will be Richard, Andrew, Donald, Johnny, Christopher, Michael, Daniel, David, Jonathan and Nicholas Barron.

The family would like to thank Leading Healthcare, Amedisys Home Care, Amedisys Hospice, all of the physicians and all of the workers who assisted in the care of Mr. Barron. A special thanks to Jackie and Nikki.
