VICKSBURG, MS - Robert R. Morrison, Jr. passed away peacefully with his family around him at the University Medical Center on the evening of November 21,2013. A life-long resident of Vicksburg, Bob was known to his many friends and family as a gentleman's gentleman, a hard-working, successful businessman, and, most of all, a man who loved and treasured his whole family.
Bob graduated from Carr Central High School and the University of Mississippi, where he was elected President of the School of Business and President of Sigma Chi, Eta Chapter. He served his country as an officer in the United States Air Force in Korea. Upon his return he joined his father in the petroleum marketing business in Vicksburg forming R. R. Morrison & Son, Inc, a Gulf Oil agency. Bob led and grew the company, becoming a nationally-recognized innovator in petroleum marketing. He led, among other things, the first waves of self-service gasoline, privately-branded convenience stores with pumps, and fleet management information systems. Bob and his sons, Cooper and Bob III, developed the chain
of Fast Lane stores. The company was the first franchisee of the fleet services company, Fuelman/Fleetcor Technologies, now a major national network. Following the sale of the company's various operations in the early 2000's, Bob continued to work in the petroleum industry as a commercial real estate broker with the Jackson firm of Stribling Realty Corporation up to the time of his death. In the late 1970's He served as President of the Mississippi Petroleum Marketers Association and as the National Brand Representative for the Amoco Oil Company on the National Oil Jobbers Council.
Bob was an active member of Crawford Street Methodist Church and was a founding member of and served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Good Shepherd Community Center, both in Vicksburg. He served as Chairman of the Economic Development Foundation of Vicksburg/Warren County and was a Lifetime Trustee of the Board of Trustees of Millsaps College. Bob was a quietly generous donor to many other charities and causes.
