LAFAYETTE - S.K. Hartley, Jr., 87, of Lafayette, LA. died on Monday, July 21, 2014, and was laid to rest on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at St. John Cemetery.
Originally from central Mississippi, Mr. Hartley joined the Navy during WWII and served at the Great Lakes Naval Station. Toward the end of the war, he was transferred to the New Orleans Naval Facility where he helped process discharged soldiers. He stayed in New Orleans and went to school on the G.I. Bill at Tulane University where he received his Law Degree. While attending school in New Orleans, he met and married his beloved wife, Bernice Buckleh.
Mr. Hartley had a successful career as an oil and gas attorney in Lafayette, as a partner in the firm of Jumonville, Hartley, Plauché, and Broadhurst.
Preceding him in death were his parents, S.K. and Lela Hartley of Hazlehurst, MS; his son, Steve Hartley; and his sister, Charlotte Love of Oceanside, CA.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; his sons, Rick Hartley of Baton Rouge, LA and Randy Hartley of Houston, TX; and his brother, Edward Van Hartley of Katy, TX.
After retiring from his law firm Mr. Hartley, who was an avid reader and history buff, enjoyed lively discussions with his brother and family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
