MAURICE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice, Louisiana for Theresa Gary Arabie 82, who passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 2:00 am at Eastridge Nursing Center in Abbeville, Louisiana.
Reverend Keith Landry, Pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church, Cow Island, LA will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services.
Burial will take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
Theresa, born October 2, 1931 in Broussard, Louisiana was a lifelong resident of the Indian Bayou community and was the daughter of the late Laurent Louis Gary and the former Marie Gabriel Bourque.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved to plan, host and cook for large gatherings of both family and friends especially for holidays and special occasions. She was a retired bus driver of Indian Bayou High School and a member of the Leroy Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxillary, VFW Post 9822 Ladies Auxillary, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ladies Altar Society, and the Cajun Culture Association.
She is survived by one sister, Margaret Delacruz and her husband Benjamin of Nederland, Texas; daughter, Theresa L. Richard and husband E.E. "Blackie" of Iota, Louisiana; two sons, Clovis Lavergne and wife Debbie of Houston, Texas and Michael J. Arabie and wife Janice of Indian Bayou, Louisiana. Grandchildren include Christina Regan and husband Mitch, Dr. Stephanie Richard and Fiancée Todd Hebert, Alaina Ferguson and husband John, Cory Lavergne and wife Gypsy, Brandon Arabie, and Matthew Arabie and wife Polina;10 great grandchildren; three half-sisters, Louise, Dorr and companion Dennis Verdyck, Barbara Lavergne, and Beverly Barnes and husband Rocky.
She was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband for over 50 years, Huey P. Arabie.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Maurice, Louisiana on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Monday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 9:00 am until time of service.
Pallbearers will be Michael Arabie, Brandon Arabie, Matthew Arabie, Cory Lavergne, Mark Delacruz, Calvin Arabie , and John Mitchell Arabie . Honorary Pallbearers will be Clovis Lavergne, Sonny Arabie, Stanley Arabie, Aaron Duhon, Ray Baudoin, Benjamin Delacruz, Leroy Miguez, Fernice Guilbeaux, Gregory Arabie, Rayford Arabie, and George Bourque.
The family would like to thank Nellie Arabie, Cynthia Arabie Baudoin,Sandra Davidson, Kathy Guidry, and Lois Comeaux Terro for their constant support and assistance. In addition the family thanks the staff of Eastridge Nursing Center and the staff of St. Joseph Hospice.
