Wilbert "Chief" Dupre, Sr.

PALMETTO -

I have fought a good fight,

I have finished my course,

I have kept the faith.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in First Pentecostal Church of Bayou Rouge for Wilbert "Chief" Dupre, Sr., age 76. On February 20, 2014, Wilbert left this world for his heavenly home, a place where there is no sickness, sorrow or pain.

Interment will be in First Pentecostal Cemetery in Bayou Rouge. The Rev. James Thomasee, Rev. Dallas Schuff and Rev. Ham, will officiate at the services.

Mr. Dupre was a native and lifelong resident of Palmetto. He retired as chief of police and fire chief for the town of Palmetto after sixteen years of service. He was a parishioner of First Pentecostal Church of Bayou Rouge. Mr. Dupre was a veteran of the military having served in the United States Air Force During the Korean Conflict. While serving he attended University of Illinois. He was the owner/operator of Dupre Texaco in Palmetto for six years from the late 1970's to the early 1980's. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and messing with his cows. He knew a little bit of everything and if he didn't, he enjoyed learning it. He especially enjoyed iron working; a trade he enjoyed with his two sons.

Survivors include his wife of forty years, the former Judy Soileau of Palmetto; two sons, Denny Wayne Dupre of Palmetto and Wilbert "Boo" Dupre, Jr. and his wife, Rose, of Powder Springs, GA; three daughters, Athena "Tina" O'Gara and her husband, Tim, of Houston, TX, Mendy Mitchell and her husband, Chet, of Palmetto and Kasey Kennedy of Palmetto; one brother, Justin Dupre and his wife, Linda, of Pearcy, AR; one brother-in-law, George Burks of Hot Springs, AR; thirteen grandchildren, Cody Dupre, Candis Amin, Brittany Amin, Clare O'Gara, Kaitlyn Mitchell, Brianna Dupre, Ashton Kennedy, Alaina Kennedy, Brandy Schexnayder, Angel Dupre, William "Trey" Dupre, Joseph Dupre and Paige Dupre; and ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred "Red" Dupre and the former Beatrice Ledoux; one daughter, Terry Dupre; one grandchild, Logan "Bubba" Mitchell; two brothers, Lawrence Dupre and J.C. Dupre; and one sister, Eldora Burks.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at First Pentecostal Church of Bayou Rouge from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Saturday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Sunday at First Pentecostal Church of Bayou Rouge.
