Wilven John Duhon

LAFAYETTE - Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 2:00 PM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for Wilven J. Duhon, age 89,who died on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Entombment will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Mausoleum.

Reverend Louis Allen Breaux, Associate Pastor of St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be William Smith and Dominique Decourt. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, will sing for the services, "Ave Maria," "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Theresa Broussard Duhon; three daughters, Cynthia Smith and her husband, William, Mary Elizabeth Decourt and her husband, Gilbert and Lou Ellen Weiner; three sons, Daniel John Duhon, Michael Wayne Duhon and his wife, Barbara and Steven Duhon; he has eleven grandchildren, Jesse LeBlanc, Aaron and Christian Smith, Dominique Decourt, Rachel and Matthew Duhon, David, Roy Junior, Melissa, Kevin and Richard Prejean; seven great grandchildren; and three great, great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alphus and Edith Hebert Duhon; and one brother Paul Burley and his wife, Jo-Ann Taylor Duhon.

Wilven John Duhon was born July 30, 1923 in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was a 1941 graduate of Lafayette High School. Mr. Duhon was a veteran of military service and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during WWII as a radioman attached to the first Marine division, where he saw action in the South Pacific Theater. He retired from Trans Louisiana Gas Company after 38 years of service. Wilven loved baseball and in addition to coaching the Company Team, he also coached Dairy Queen and Pinhook Rotary little league.

Pall Bearers are Michael Duhon, Dominique Decourt, Jesse LeBlanc, Aaron Smith, David Prejean and Kevin Prejean. Honorary Pall Bearers are Daniel and Steve Duhon, Matthew Duhon, Roy Jr and Richard Prejean, William Smith, and Gilbert Decourt.

Special thanks to his faithful caregivers throughout his illness Tina Diaz and Bertha Suire . Also, special thanks to Dr. Spiller and St Joseph's Hospice and their caregivers, Susan Thibodeaux, Martine Celestine, Tashetta Michael, Esheika Fontenette and Lanetta O'Neal, and our great neighbors who provided meals throughout, especially Nikki Fowler.

The family request that donations be made in Mr. Duhon's name to St. Joseph's Hospice, 1003 Hugh Wallis Road South, Lafayette, LA. 70508.

A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 10:00 AM in Martin & Castille's DONTOWN location.

The family requests that visitation will be observed on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
