Dr. Roy Lee Jacobs, a resident of Baton Rouge, and Chairperson of the Education Leadership Program at Southern University, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was born September 8, 1949 in Hermanville, Mississippi unto the union of George and Carrie Belle Jacobs. At an early age the family moved to Jackson, Mississippi, and later to New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Jacobs received Christ as his personal savior and was baptized by the late Rev. James Smith at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Clinton Louisiana. He later worshiped at Bethany World Prayer Center before moving his membership to St. Mark United Methodist Church, where he served diligently until his death. Funeral services will be held at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 6217 Glen Oaks Drive, on Monday May 7, 2012 at 10 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to visit from 8 a.m. until religious services at 10 a.m. Roy was educated in the public school system of Jackson, Mississippi and New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1968. He furthered his education by earning a bachelors degree in Political Science from Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi, and a Masters of Education in Instructional Media from Southern University. He later earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Vanderbilt University. He also had the opportunity to study at the University of Ghana and the University of California (Berkeley). He was a member of numerous social, professional, and honor societies. He served on an array of local, state, regional and national boards. He served as a consultant with public and private schools and various private industries. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dr. Jacqulin Sensley Jacobs; four sons, Roy Jr., George, and Robert Jacobs, and Clifford (Petra) Minus; five aunts, Mary (Willie) Cooley and Irma Hardy, Chicago, IL, Adell Raymon, Atlanta, GA, Irene Rhodes, Detroit MI., and favorite aunt Janie (Declark) Garret, Houston Texas; four uncles, Lidell (Barbra) Jacobs, Chicago, IL, Roy Edward (Edna) Jacobs, Detroit, MI, and James and John (Henrietta) Jackson, Hermanville, MS; special friends, Big Al, Mason Hunter and Matthew Vaughn, New Orleans, LA, and Wendell P. Williams, Las Vegas, Nevada; four grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his oldest son Troy Lidell Jacobs, parents, George Jacobs Jr. and Carrie Shine, grandparents, George Jacobs Sr. and Clara and Stellar Jacobs, Henry and Minnie Belle Austin, several aunts, uncles and cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southern University College of Education Scholarship Fund in memory of Dr. Roy Jacobs. Send donations to the College of Education, P.O.
