Carlton J. Clayton
Carlton J. Clayton, 80, of Anderson and formerly of Salinas, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013. He was born November 8, 1933, in Dexter, N.M. to parents Carl "Doc" and Mildred Miller Clayton.
A long-time resident of Salinas, he graduated from Salinas High School and went on to attend University California Berkeley for two years. After two years, Carlton enlisted and served in the United States Army as a Sergeant for the 7th Infantry during the Korean War. Once Honorably Discharged, he attended San Jose State University graduating with a B.S. in Engineering.
Carl worked for the Monterey Flood Control and eventually opened his own business, Clayton and Associates, an engineering consulting firm. In 1970, he bought his family's business, Clayton's Cleaners. He and his wife, Shirley, raised their four children in Salinas, where he volunteered his time with the Lions Club and Sacred Heart Parish.
Carlton was most dedicated to providing for his wife, children, and grandchildren. Carl's wisdom and presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Shirley; his sister, Juanita (Bill) McCraw; his parents and his sister-in-law, Francis (Bill) Pieroni.
He is survived in death by his children, Steve (Marsha) Clayton, Mark Clayton, Christine (Jeff) Bobbett, Michael (Lara) Clayton; his six grandchildren, whom he delighted in watching grow, Michelle, Amanda, Elizabeth, Emily, Zachary and Tyler; his niece, Debra (Robert) Long; nephew Clayton McCraw and grand-nephews, Noah and Jonah.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 2, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.
Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven Chapel, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas, CA 93907.
Burial will follow at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
