David A. Maciel
David A. Maciel, 79, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, after a brief illness.
David had been a resident of Santa Fe for the past 10 years. He was originally born in Centerville (Fremont), however later in childhood moved to the Salinas area with his parents. He attended Salinas High School and he spent most of his adult years in Salinas, and eventually moved to Carmel Valley where he resided until he retired in 2003.
He was an Army Veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He was in the Army Reserves for 9½ years, Regular Army for 11 years and then in the National Guard for 26 years. He retired June 14, 1995 from the military as a Master Sergeant. During his service, he received medals for Good Conduct, National Defense Service, Vietnam Campaign Medal and also an Expert Rifle Medal.
He worked for Monterey County Linoleum and Carpets/Cinderella Carpets in Salinas for a large part of his working career handling Commercial Accounts for the firm.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbara Maciel of Santa Fe, NM; sister, Lynn Patton (Tom) of Plumas Lake; daughter, Kathlene Heinemann of San Jose; daughter, Carol Giesler (Hans) of Castro Valley, and two grandchildren; as well as two daughters-in-law, Tara Teilmann, of Santa Fe, NM and Machelle Dawn of Albuquerque, NM.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, John M. Maciel of Salinas and Mother Eleanor V. Maciel of Salinas.
The Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2014, at The Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe St., Santa Fe, NM 87501; phone no. 505-988-6400.
