Gilbert Herrera, 95, formerly of Salinas, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, in Folsom. Gilbert was born Oct. 4, 1921, in Agua Ramon, Colorado.

During World War II, Gilbert served his country as a member of the Army Air Corp. He saw combat in the European Theater, including Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. After serving, Gilbert lived most of his adult life in Monterey County. He retired in 1986 after many years in the construction industry.

Gilbert was the oldest child born to Luciano and Fidela Herrera. In addition to his parents and five brothers and sisters, his eldest son, Roger Gilbert Herrera, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Marjeri Grace Herrera; sons, David Herrera (Stacey) of Daly City, Jonathan Herrera of Salinas, and Christian Herrera (Susan) of San Jose. He is also survived by his daughters, Chris Salgado of Ventura, Camilla Fish (Greg) of San Jose, Corky Estave (Michael) of Baton Rouge, LA, Cassie Lazaro (Jon) of Folsom, Celeste Herrera-Montgomery (Tim) of Salinas, and Cerina Locke (Donald) of Scotts Valley. Gilbert is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.

Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at Struve and Laporte Chapel.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 22 Stone St., Salinas, CA 93901.

Entombment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas, CA 93907.
