Gustavo Cairo Jr.

Gustavo Cairo Jr. passed away with his family by his side on Friday, May 30, 2014. Gustavo was born April 18, 1931, in San Francisco.

Gustavo proudly retired as Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. Gustavo's military service included the Korean conflict and a tour of duty in the Vietnam War.

After Gustavo left military service, he continued as a public servant working with the Dept. of Agriculture for 18 years. Gustavo was the Regional Director of the Office of Rural Farms & Housing. As a Loan Specialist, he enabled numerous families in the Salinas Valley to achieve the American dream of owning their own homes. He has truly left his mark throughout Monterey County including the cities of Chualar, Gonzales, Soledad and King City.

Gustavo is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hope Cairo; daughters, Lydia Cairo, Loretta Blackwell, Rosemary Cairo and granddaughter, Vanessa M. Velasco.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. today, June 3, 2014, at Alta Vista Mortuary, 41 East Alisal St., Salinas, CA 93901.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. today, June 3, 2014 at Alta Vista Mortuary, 41 East Alisal St., Salinas, CA 93901.

Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas, CA 93901.
