Lesley "Les" E. Hill
Lesley "Les" E. Hill, 83, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully Friday, March 22, 2013, at George Mee Memorial Hospital in King City.
Les was born March 12, 1930, in Ainsworth, NE and had been a resident of Monterey County since the early 1950's. He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers from 1951 to 1955. After the military, he married the love of his life, Irene Elizabeth "Betty" O'Connor in 1955. Les worked as senior maintenance for the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds and later was Cemetery Sexton for Greenfield Cemetery District and Oak Park. He retired in 2010 after 35 years of service. He was a King City Volunteer Firefighter, he enjoyed leading Boy Scouts, helping the King City 4H Club and Greenfield 4H Woodworking Instruction Program and was a member of the American Legion. Les enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, traveling, dancing, gambling, horseback riding, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Irene Elizabeth "Betty" Hill of Greenfield; four sons, Lesley "Joel" (Jacqueline) Hill of Greenfield, Monty Gene (Donna) Hill of King City, Timothy Craig Hill of Sonora, Andy Clay of Greenfield; eight grandchildren, Grant, Brock, Christi, Amber, Alissa, Timothy, Darcy and Justin; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Ray Hill of Greenfield; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Rosie Hill; granddaughter, Kimberly; sisters, Florence Oliver and Louise Stevenson; and brothers, Orval Hill and Joel Hill.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m., at Woodyard Funeral Home in Soledad.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 10 a.m., at Greenfield Cemetery at Oak Park in Greenfield.
