Marvin H. Elster, Jr.
Marvin H. Elster, Jr., died Thursday, April 4, 2013, in Salinas, where he lived for many years. He was 92 years of age, having been born April 29, 1922, in Alameda.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII with General Patton's Third Army in France, where he was wounded in combat in 1944.
Marvin was an accountant and auditor with Standard Oil of California for many years. He then worked for the Monterey County Office of Education, the Carmel Unified School District, and retired from private accounting practice.
Deeply committed to community service, Marvin was an active member of the Salinas Elks, Free & Accepted Masons Chapter 204, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans, and the 80th Division Veterans Association and Sons in Retirement.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Bruce Elster of Morro Bay, Eric Elster of the Sea Ranch, and Brian Elster of Oxnard; his sister, Nancy Shirey of Salinas; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
At his request, there will be no funeral services, but the family wishes to express gratitude to Emeritus at Harden Ranch and the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice for their excellent care and support.
