Melvin "Clyde" Locke

Clyde Locke, 80, of Merced, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, surrounded by family. He was born Nov. 2, 1933, in Exeter.

Clyde moved to Salinas at the age of seven and resided there until his retirement in 1989 when he relocated to Merced. Shortly after graduating Salinas High School, he enlisted in the Army spending the majority of his service time in Germany. After completing his military service he began his lengthy career with the City of Salinas Fire Dept. He dedicated 30 years to helping others and at the time of his retirement he had earned the rank of Fire Captain.

Clyde had an infectious personality and always had kind words and a smile on his face. He was adored by all who met him and will be missed very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Sybil Johnson; his wife, Kelly Locke and son, Steven Gross.

He is survived by daughters, Kristi Locke, Melinda Cochrane; grandchildren, Misty (Nick) Brito, Mandy Juarez, Haley and Jordan Cocharne; grandson, Steven Gross Jr.; great-granddaughter, Makenzie Brito; brother, Don (Myrna) Locke and many nieces and nephews. We are all blessed to have had Clyde in our lives.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas.
