Peter J. Holewinski Jr.

Peter J. Holewinski Jr., 85, entered into rest Saturday, January 5, 2013, following a short illness, in Santa Rosa

A native of Kenosha, WI, Peter was reared in Racine, WI. He graduated from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in 1951. He was employed as an architect for 45 years, retiring in 1998. Peter enjoyed Art, Color, Historic Restoration and Photography, as well as his membership of St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Healdsburg. Peter was Co-Partner with Melvin L. Blevins of Carmel Valley, of Holewinski & Blevins Architects in Salinas for 45 years, growing a two-person architectural office into the largest architectural practice in Monterey County at the time of his retirement. He also served for many years on the Salinas City Planning Commission and taught Architectural Drafting at Hartnell Junior College. For many years, he was an active member of the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs of Salinas. Among his many architectural projects in Monterey County were the Madonna del Sasso Church, the Japanese Buddhist Temple, the Salinas Civic Center Addition, several Elementary, High School and Health Care complexes, the residential quarters for the Immaculate Heart Monastery in Big Sur, and numerous private residences in Salinas, Carmel and Monterey.

Dearly beloved husband for 59 years of Rosemarie Holewinski of Healdsburg; loving father of Peter (Mary-Frances Walsh) Holewinski, III of Westport, CT, Mark (Ruth) Holewinski of Carmichael, Lisa (Rob) Subry of Steamboat Springs, CO and Gregory (Tammy) Holewinski of Frisco, TX; adored grandfather of Aron, Devin, Julia, Anna and James Holewinski; brother of Mary Jane Petrowiak of Grafton, WI. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Funeral Mass on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 12:00 noon, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 208 Matheson St., Healdsburg, CA 95448.

Lafferty & Smith Colonial Chapel will provide visitation hours on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where at 6:00 p.m. a Vigil/Rosary Service will be conducted in the main sanctuary. Private inurnment.

As an expression of sympathy, the family prefers memorial contributions in Peter's name be made to the Neil J. Rauenhorst Class of '76, Scholarship Endowment, in care of The Catholic University of America, Office of Institutional Advancement, Aquinas Hall, 620 Michigan Ave., Washington, D.C., 20064.
