Benjamin H. Lilly, Jr.

AGE: 91 • former longtime resident of Millville

Benjamin H. Lilly, Jr., 91, former longtime Millville resident, died on September 14, 2013 in Bath, NY. He was a graduate of Millville High School class of 1938 and of Camden Commercial College. He served in the army during WWII where he was assigned to Allied Force Headquarters in North Africa and then to SHAEF. General Eisenhower awarded him the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service. After the war, he returned to Millville where he worked, until his retirement, as Plant Traffic Supervisor for Armstrong Cork Company, later Kerr Glass. Ben enjoyed family genealogy and antique cars and was a member of Cohanzick Antique Car Club. He and his 1929 DeSoto were a fixture at parades and car shows around Millville for many years. Until moving to New York, he was also a member of First United Methodist Church and the American Legion.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Ben Lilly Sr. and Hazel (Elwell) Lilly and his sister, Mary Jane Sanders. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, June C. Lilly of Painted Post, NY, his daughter, Jo Ann Richards and her husband Robert of Mercersburg, PA, son, David B. Lilly and his wife Sharon of Clarksville, IN. He is also survived by grandchildren, Dr. Carrie Van Slyke of Corning, NY, Scott Richards of Centrevillle, VA, and Denver H. Lilly of Clarksville, IN, as well as great grandchildren, Lillian and Thomas Van Slyke.

Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Millville Historical Society, 200 E Main Street, Millville, NJ 08332.
