Charles C. Apprendi, Sr., 92, of Vineland, passed away peacefully Monday, February 3rd, at Inspira Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Josephine and Joseph Apprendi. Charles graduated from Vineland High School in 1939 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Drexel University. Charles served as a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant in ground operations during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater between 1942 and 1945. He was recognized by the United States for his service with a Bronze Star for meritorious service, WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and by the State of New Jersey with a Distinguished Service Medal. He was also recognized by the Chinese government for his service in the China Theater during the war. After World War II, Charles achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant, Field Artillery in the New Jersey National Guard. Charles worked as an accountant for Cross Transportation and Shulman Air Freight before accepting a position with the Vineland Public Schools as the supervisor of transportation. He was an active member of the Vineland Jaycees, served on the Vineland City Council and has been a member of the American Legion Post 4 for 65 years.
Charles is survived by his children, Valerie McDonough, Charles Apprendi, Jr. and wife, Yuliya, and Lynn Monteleone and husband, Anthony; granddaughter, Alexis (Donoflio) Pyszka and husband, Douglas; and great granddaughter, Lucille Lynn Pyszka. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Bernice Scrivani Apprendi.
A Church Visitation will be on Friday, February 7 from 9:30am to 11am followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:15am at Saint Padre Pio Parish - Church Of Our Lady Of Pompeii, 4680 Dante Avenue, Vineland, NJ.
