Edmund Maurice Scheer

AGE: 73 • Vineland

Edmund Maurice Scheer, 73, of Vineland, passed away Monday morning, October 14, 2013 after a brief illness.

Edmund was born in Pleasantville, NJ, and graduated from Pleasantville High School. He served in the US Coast Guard Reserves for 10 years and worked as a butcher for Acme Markets. He graduated from the NJ Police Academy at Sea Girt in 1970 and served as a Vineland Police Officer for 25 years. He was recognized as Outstanding Officer of the Year in 1972. He graduated from the Philadelphia Police Department's Canine Corps in 1974 along with his partner in law enforcement Shadow, one of Vineland's first police dogs in modern times. He was known by hundreds of Vineland's school children for his and Shadow's K-9 police dog demonstrations and for his many years of service at Cumberland County Police Youth Week for which he served as one of the founding officers. In 2009 and again in 2010 he was recognized by the Daily Journal as Vineland's Best Bartender for his service at the Recreation Club of Vineland.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edmund M. and Mary E. (Taylor), his siblings Edmund D. and Donald E. Scheer and Delores (Scheer) Bent, nephew Donald Scheer and niece Mary Scheer DiPerri. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Joyce (Keepfer), daughters and sons-in-law Lorie and John Triantos of Vineland, Kim and Joseph Derosa of Westfield, NJ, and son Edmund M. of New Brunswick; brother John of Rockledge, Florida; grandsons Jonathan and Brandon Triantos of Vineland and Joseph, Derek, Thomas and Devin Derosa of Westfield; nieces and nephews Donna Sue Hagen, John and Daniel Scheer, Wendy Scheer Birkbeck, Cindy Scheer, Taylor Bent Caroll, Andy DiPerri, Karen Gellura, Kevin Keepfer, Kelly Holloman, and Kristin Zozzaro; cousins Donald Taylor, Barbara (Taylor) Hicks, Judy (Warren) Barker, and Geoff Warren. He will be sorely missed by his Bassett Hound Fletcher and his Cockatoo, Taylor.

Friends and family are invited to attend visitation from 5 - 7 PM on Friday, October 18 at Pancoast Funeral Home in Vineland. A memorial service will follow at 7PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Boardwalk Chapel, P.O. Box 602, Wildwood, NJ 08260. Ed's wish is to have his remains cremated. The family would greatly appreciate your letters and cards for him along with any fond memories and if possible a favorite photo of Ed. These letters will be shared with his grandchildren.
