Emma Schwegel

Emma Katherine (Hill) Schwegel, age 89 of Bridgeton and formerly of Millville, passed away Thursday evening, January 9, 2014 at the Cumberland Manor Nursing Home. She had been in declining health for the past seven months.

Born and raised in Johnstown, PA, she graduated in 1943 from Conemaugh High School as the class secretary.

She worked for Bethlehem Steel Mill prior to moving to New Jersey in 1946. For many years, Mrs. Schwegel worked as a factory worker for Kerr Glass and the West Co., and she retired in 1979 from Wheaton Glass Co. as a packer.

Mrs. Schwegel was a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and served as the Chaplain for many years. She was also a member of the Second United Methodist Church of Millville and the VFW-Ladies Auxiliary. Being an active volunteer, she enjoyed attending the senior citizen's lunches at High-Rise East. She also enjoyed walking and playing BINGO.

Mrs. Schwegel is survived by her children, Donald J. Schwegel Jr. and his companion Catherine Brandon of Arcade, GA, William R. Schwegel Sr. and his wife Laura of San Diego, CA, and Donna Livingston of Millville; three grandchildren, Gwen Barber and her husband Brian of Millville, Jaime Lynn Ladd and her husband Roger of OK, and William Robert Schwegel Jr. of Iowa; two great grandchildren, Brian L. Barber and Ellie Schwegel; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Donald J. Schwegel Sr. in 1998; her parents, Homer and Florence (Gilbert) Hill; one sister Florence Annetta Clark; one brother William Robert Hill; and one granddaughter Wendy Lynn Iannello.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad Street, Millville. Family and friends will be received Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville.
