Joseph M. Giacomelli Sr., 88, of Vineland passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in Inspira Medical Center Elmer.
Joseph was born in Vineland to the late Neal and Mary (Scarpa) Giacomelli and was a lifelong Vineland resident. Joseph was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II. Prior to retirement, he was a mechanic for Kimble Glass Co. of Vineland for over 40 years. Joseph was an usher and member of Divine Mercy Parish, St. Francis Church. He loved to paint, play the piano and play chess.
He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel Giacomelli, in 2003; two brothers, Eugene Giacomelli and Dominick Giacomelli; and two sisters, Cesirine Muzzarelli and Barbara Petrone.
Joseph is survived by his loving children, three sons, Joseph M. Giacomelli Jr. and wife Barbara, Michael J. Giacomelli and wife Ramona, and Vincent J. Giacomelli and wife Jackie, all of Vineland; and three daughters, Barbara V. Curley and husband Michael of Vineland, Maria A. Boyle and husband Michael of DeQuincy, La., and Toni L. Fritz and husband Jeffrey of Bayville. Joseph is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Divine Mercy Parish, St. Francis Church, 23 W. Chestnut Ave., Vineland. Burial will follow in Siloam Cemetery, Vineland. The viewing will be on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Monday from 9 to 10:15 a.m. at the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, 1024 E. Landis Ave., Vineland.
